2021 Year In Review: The Searches that Defined the year with Aria

Welcome everyone, I'm Pornhab area with your year in review 2021. We'll dive in by focusing on the searches that have defined this past year, and then we'll touch on a few other new and noteworthy mentions from throughout the year. Every year, the Insights team and the Pornhab Stat team sift through data from billions of visits to see what content to find near. These searches are really fascinating because not only do they represent a wide variety of interests, but in their own way all of these categories capture the cultural zeitgeist of a moment. Let's drill it down. In 2018, our list included Fortnite and Boutette. While 2019 was led by amateur porn and aliens, in 2020 was quarantine. For 2021, our top defining term is Pintai. Pintai became the most popular search term in the world after it moved to the top spot in the United States, corner of its biggest audience. Pintai was a top 10 search in almost every single country in 2021. Second search that we feel defines 2021 is romance. The popularity of searches containing romance and romantic more than doubled alongside a 139% increase in passionate searches. Among Pornhab's gay male visitors searches for romance grew 288% in the last year. It seems like after a bleak 2020 of lockdown people were ready to throw distancing to the wind and get in on some freeway or forway action. And speaking more to that point, the third and fourth trending item, group sex and fitness respectively, have probably also risen in popularity due to people navigating various situations in the lockdown and, you know, missing the gym. If on the list is swapping, with growing dialogue out there about other styles and varieties of relationships beyond monogamy, porn fantasies are somewhat mirroring that. And let's face it, after 2020 people were ready to be extra for a scheme 2021. Next up, the term challenge and related searches grew by 255%. And when we say challenge here, we mean the jerk off challenge or the try not to come challenge. Number seven on our list is transgender. As society has become more inclusive of diverse gender identities, searches for trans and transgender content have increased on Pornhab. In 2021, trans searches grew another 141%, and views of transgender category grew by 23%, making it the 10th most blocked category by male visitors. The eighth term that defined 2021 is gawk, which grew by 283% over the last year. That follows a similar trend in pop culture with goss style and culture, making a comeback with the Y and Z generations. Courtney, Megan, and now Kim. Number nine is roommate, which definitely ties into what we've been saying above about how people's living situations in lockdown may have influenced their fantasy lives. Searches for roommate grew by 136%, including lesbian roommate, gay roommate, fucking roommate, and horny roommate. So I guess it's pretty nice having someone to split the rent with among other things. Last but not least, searches containing how to grew by a staggering 244%, because it turns out that how to isn't just about DIYing your bathroom pile or renovating a kitchen on a budget. In fact, recently, we were all shocked to discover that some of our viewers are tuning into PornHub, not because you're hot for teacher, but because you actually want to learn calculus from a legit math professor. Amazing. Anyway, the most popular how to searches on PornHub include how to squirt, eat pussy, suck dick, put on a condom last longer, finger myself, shave balls, make a deal, though, find your g spot, and of course, how to make her come. So to start this off, we're talking about the lady. 2021 saw the proportion of female visitors go to 35%, a 5% growth compared to 2020. Among PornHub's top 20 countries, the Philippines, Colombia, Argentina, Mexico, and Ukraine all have greater than 40% female viewership. Of course, this begs the question, when women are on PornHub, what do they watch in search for? In 2021, lesbian porn remained the number one most popular category with women. The next popular category is for female viewers, for Japanese, milk, freesom, mature, and handtie. So we come and come again, I work, full circle here. Interestingly, for male viewers, Japanese is the number one search category followed by milk, mature, ebony, and handtie at number five. So there you go. No matter how different men and women are at times, at least for this moment, we've got handtie, Japanese, and some milk, in common. I already touched on the defining searches of 2021 and searches by gender, but those of you curious about the most nude categories overall and the top gaining porn categories? This next bit should be titillating. Without further ado, the top 10 most viewed categories on PornHub are Japanese, lesbian, handtie, milk, anal, mature, amateur, popular with women, and freesom. And our top gaining categories? Well, baby definitely got back because big ass porn is up by a whopping 314%. Followed by bisexual male at 288%. Let's talk time. A time to reflect, shall we? Be honest, how much time do you spend on PornHub? When we ran the numbers, we were pretty surprised to see that the average time people spend on PornHub actually decreased slightly in the last year. Now, that doesn't mean you're watching less porn. Rather, it seems most of you are finding what you want that much faster thanks to our handy search algorithm and well-curated category tags. The average time people spend on PornHub in the US is approximately 9 minutes and 44 seconds. So you guys are getting down to business pretty efficiently. Good job. As for when you like to watch? No matter where you live in the world, our data shows that the most popular day of the week for people to watch PornHub is Sunday between the hours of 10 p.m. and 1 a.m. with 11 p.m. being the busiest hour. Trying to release tension and have some fun ahead of the work week? Definitely makes sense to me too. Believe it or not, Friday night is the least busy on PornHub. And we'd like to think this is because you're all out getting busy in a healthy and consensual way. Another place on PornHub where male and female viewers align, besides Japanese porn, actually relates to the top two porn stars on PornHub. Once again, Lana Rose is the number one most searched porn star. And Abella Danger takes the number two slot for both men and women. When it comes to looking at the overall data, the number three searched porn star on PornHub is actually rising starlet Eva Elfie, whose popularity has skyrocketed in this past year. She started off as a model on Model Hub and quickly rose to fame with her incredible content. PornHub's visitors grew up a bit over the last year in terms of their average age, now being 37 years old, an increase of one year since 2020. However, viewers ranging in age from 24 to 35 still represent the largest age demographic on PornHub. Speaking of age gaps, right now we understand that different generations are at war of social media over hands, mom jeans, skinny jeans, boot cut, fell bottom. It's all pretty contentious. Still, we can definitely detect a generational factor in terms of the top relative porn categories by generation. For instance, lesbian porn is 77% more popular for boomers versus other generations of viewers. For GenY or Millennials, Asian is the top category at 92%. Meanwhile, our lovely jaded GenXRs out there surprised us this past year when we discovered that the cartoon porn category is 58% more popular among them. Is it nostalgia, irony, what's going on with you guys? Last but not least, the boomers. To give them credit, boomers on PornHub seemed to stick to the tried and tested classics. At 59%, Punjab is the top relative category for boomers. So there you have it. Now you can go back to hating each other's music and pants, or instead maybe marvel at how fantasy and desire are pretty much timeless. Let's discuss PornHub product. All over the world, on certain days of the year, we as humans have some pooled common ground. In the US, viewership drops by 35% on Christmas Eve, and only 19% on Christmas Day. Sure, we miss you, but it's cool. PornHub will be there ready to queue up your favorite videos once your crazy end is gone and the house is quiet again. On New Year's Eve, viewership in the US dropped even more by 40%. So hopefully you're all planning and rocking out for 2022 and have a designated driver. Although someone might want to check on those tweets, their viewership decreases by exactly 69%. 69% on New Year's Eve, so you have to wonder what kind of parties they're throwing up there.
