Top 5 Picks with Alix Lynx - Advice for Models
Transcript
Hi there, I'm Alex Links and you are watching top five picks with Alex Links here on the PornHub YouTube channel. Number one, top five mistakes for new models to avoid at the beginning of their career. Number one, not setting firm boundaries. This means not having a list of things that you are not willing to do and things that you are willing to do on film that needs to be very, very clear. And you need to not budge if anyone that includes talent director, your agent, etc. asks you to do it. You can always say no. Number two, do not let anyone bully you. Going back to number one, it's your body, your choice. It is a job given the nature of the job. If you are going to do things with your own body, you need to be 100% behind them. And if you are not, no rush, no pressure. There have been a ton of acts that I have never done on camera and I'm good. So anyone who tells you that you need to do X, Y and Z, you need to work with this person and that person that you don't want to, you really don't have to. Always remember that. Number three, save your money. I can personally attest to this. When I first got into the business, I saw more money than I had ever made in my entire life and I spent a lot of it. And now what I would do differently and what I do now is that I pay myself first, take a, I invest it. I have all kinds of different savings accounts. I'll splurge on a little bit, but I save and invest most of my money. And also, given that, there will be times that you will be out of work, unable to work. You will have to rely on the money that you have had saved. Emergencies come up, all kinds of things. Make sure that you are watching your own back. And number four, stock up on content. It's all fun and games and it's also a really wonderful career path. If you do it right, it's all fun and games when you're a brand new girl and you're going to call to set every single day non-stop, non-stop. And it feels like the work is never going to end. I promise you, if you were only working for companies not taking time to stock up on your own content, that work will drive quickly and that will be it for you. Use the companies to your benefit to help give you exposure and help give you a new, give you more fans and help connect you with talent and directors and all that stuff, but always prioritize making your own content. And I would say just tell yourself, I'll do X-Men, it seems per week and just create your library because that's how you earn residuals in this industry, not on a mainstream set. The last thing is do not let all of this go to your head. Make sure you're taking time to carve out a life for yourself outside of the industry. I too have been through this myself. I spent many, many years living in California. I was in this bubble of just pretty much always work all the time and I didn't make a life for myself until much later. I was also not in a good space mentally for a while. So make sure that you're carving out time for yourself to hang out with friends, family, whatever, whatever is good for you, whatever you want to do, hobbies, etc. outside of the industry because that's what helps you stay grounded and normal and gives you a perspective on the difference between real life and the fantasy world that we all know love and live in. So do a top five ways to keep sex works sustainable for the long haul. This is the perfect question for me because I have been doing this since 2014. However, I really have not been doing it conventionally as they mentioned before. And let's just get right into number one. Be very, very particular and set your firm boundaries now before you start going to set and get caught up in the moment. That means decide what acts you are and are not comfortable with point blank period. You do not need to explain yourself to anybody. Just say no, I'm not comfortable with that and move on. Don't let anyone bully you because back of the matter as this is your body. And if you're going to start doing acts that you are not comfortable with, it will catch up with you up here eventually not good stick to your firm boundaries and you'll be okay. Number two, this goes back to what I mentioned before content, create your own content, really prioritize creating your library of content because that is how you will earn residuals in this industry. That's how you are able to repurpose and recycle content from years and years and years ago for basically ever, which is exactly what I do. It gives you the freedom and flexibility to have more control over your own schedule to turn down shoots. You might not necessarily want to do just because you need the money. It helps you make money in your sleep. It helps you save even more. The list goes on and on. I cannot stress this enough. And I think with the fan sites, we all know this by now, but just have to throw it out there. Number three, make sure you are prioritizing your mental health and your health in general. It's really easy and I went through this when I first got into the business. I was brand new, super fresh. It was a whole new world to me. And it's very easy to get sucked into a life of partying and just this bubble of like not reality and just kind of like losing yourself. So prioritize your mental health, exercise, drink a lot of water, get your sleep, stick to hobbies outside of the industry that are calming and give you joy. Whether that's like playing video games or swing dancing or hiking or running all of that stuff, it is so, so, so important. And the last thing is to be mindful with your social media, being on it and your consumption, go into it with a mindset of I'm going to post this and interact and then get off because if you start doing scrolling, that's going to mess you up up here. You just don't even do it. And you know, you start comparing yourself to your colleagues and your coworkers and getting down on yourself and wondering why like you're not in this role and you're not doing this or that and you're not making this money. Just don't like just avoid it. Just stay as I do. Stay in your bubble and be ignorant. That's a really good piece of advice if I ever had one. And next, also keep in mind, like if people will be judgy and of your job and it's really not people in the industry, it's people outside because they have these crazy. A lot of people have crazy misconceptions about what the industry is all about. They think like sets are just like co-fueled orgies, like I don't even, I think it's just from movies and TV and all that stuff. And we all know that's not true, but I think that's where people's concern and judgment comes from. So just you got to have a thick skin. If people say crazy stuff to you, whether that's trolls online or even loved ones, just, you know, pretend the words are sliding off of you. And don't take it personally. It has everything to do with their misconceptions. And nothing to do with you. Just remember that. Next, make sure that you are really staying in tune with yourself and staying in touch with yourself and just being self-aware overall, deciding what is it that you need in the moment. And I think being in tune with yourself and being self-aware is a really, really, really powerful skill to have. Especially when it comes to this line of work, it can be very easy to get burnt out to get really into it and non-stop, just content, content, content all day, especially with all the social media platforms. Like it is so much. It's okay to take days off. It's okay to completely unplug. And it's honestly, you need it. Sometimes I, in the past when I was working a ton, like for companies, I would take like a week and a half just off and just like, pop around and do whatever I wanted. You really need that period to be able to recharge and reset yourself. You can't fail from an empty tank. Top five most annoying things that fans do. Number one, propose a meet-up. It's never going to happen. I don't do that. People who do, that's cool. Not for me. You're in a bubble of a fantasy land that performers are creating for you. And I think it's honestly rude. And it's a weird vibe when you start acting like we're dating because we're not. So I'm just going to leave it at that. Number two, having meltdowns on performers' pages because you got scammed by someone, probably some man and mom's basement. I always picture like a man and mom's basement like 400 pounds with like a ponytail, just like heavy breathing, pretending to be me, pretending to be you using your photos. It's like it happens all the time and it is so crazy people will come on my page and be like, I said you a thousand dollars because your aunt needed surgery and you can't talk to me anymore. And I'm like, bro, I'm not on WhatsApp talking to you. I hate to break it to you. So just know there are certain places where you can talk to me and your favorite models included. I would say for the most part, myself included, that would be on the fan sites, like only fans. And I do have a sex fan there as well. And they have like random messaging on different platforms, too like fan centro, etc. So just know that like models are not on WhatsApp or signal app or like Facebook messenger or whatever like asking you for money. Like I can't with that. I'm so over that. So fans do this a lot and it's really annoying and people just need to be a little bit smarter. Number three, getting upset when I choose to do and not just me, it's everyone, but when performers sometimes again, this goes back to being able to make sex work sustainable for the long haul. When performers choose not to do certain acts and fans just like freak out, well, why don't you do ain't all blah blah blah. This person does okay cool. Well, why don't you go watch this person because I'm not doing this. Like it feels very invasive and everyone has their own personal reasons as to why they don't want to perform certain acts for me personally. When I was doing a ton of different types of scenes, I was burned out very quickly. It's very hard on your body. This is how I sustain myself. I really pull back. I sometimes I'll pull back a lot sometimes just a little and only do lighter content. If that makes sense, but still make it good. It's all good. If you don't like what a certain girl does, just go find someone else who does that for you. That's all I gotta say. Number four, assuming that we are not human, that we are here only to please you and service you and that we don't have our own lives. Many performers have families have children have whole entire lives. I mean, we all do. We all have lives outside of work. So to assume that like, you know, like I can't show up live on live stream every day on only fans because I have other things to do to help grow and expand my life as a whole over a certain period of time. Like, you know, you just have to be respectful of that and no one understand that just like you performers, we love our, I mean, I would say speaking for myself in peers that I know we love what we do. We love our jobs. It's very fun for us. It's so much fun, but we still have lives. And I think people need to know that we're not just objects like we are humans with real feelings. And the last really annoying thing that fans do, I really appreciate when fans buy Amazon wishless gifts. I feel incredible. It's amazing. It's so incredibly thoughtful and sweet. And I love my fans that do this. Who choose to be so generous. However, it's really not the vibe. But when a fan buys something from a wishless with the intention of getting something reciprocated like I've had people be like, oh, I thought you this off of Amazon. So I deserve a Skype show. And I'm like, well, that's great. But we didn't talk about that. So this goes back to boundaries. Don't let anyone walk all over you because if you let people, they will and no one's going to be happy except for them. Okay, top five mental health tips for performers. Number one. Have a work life separation. I did not do this for a long time. And I was not on a good state mentally. Like I was just like in this bubble of work all the live long day. And I kind of forgot how to be a normal person. And they know that sounds weird. But I think some people will understand this. So again, like calling your family, hanging out with friends, like hanging out with your dog going on hikes, like doing stuff outside of work is so so important. And just unplugging, leaving your phone away, reading a book and like just just living your life for real. In real life, if that makes sense because if you're just in this bubble of non-stop content creating, that's not good for your mental health whatsoever. Number two, prioritize your wellness routine. Get a solid wellness routine. And like for me, mine's probably a little crazy for some, but some people like me are really into that. I meet that structure to keep me sane. So for me, it's like I have massive benefits and daily meditating daily exercise, whether that's running, lifting, I feel really good. I look better, hydrating, just drinking water, getting a good night's sleep. Like all these things eating really healthy. Like what you put into your body and the work you do behind the scenes, you can definitely feel it in your normal day to day. So stick with it. Even if you've got to pick like three things that you want to incorporate into your day to day, like little habits, whether it's listening to an uplifting podcast or doing a five-minute meditation or just like putting your phone away an hour before bed, whatever that does for you. Like your mental health is so important. Do not mess with it. And the next thing is don't let social media become your entire life. I've said this before. I know it's so easy to get so sucked into like I got to make content. I got to make content that and like comparing yourself to others because it's very, very, very easy to see another person in the industry who's obviously been a lot better than you financially and has more fans, all that stuff. It's very easy to get down on yourself, but I think I for I go through this sometimes everyone does remember that you are yourself and no one in this world will ever exist and be exactly like you. Like you are a really special person. So remember that like you're awesome. You matter and kind of just put your blinders up and post what you need to post, share what you need to share, say what you need to say, interact with your fans and other people. And then get off the social media because if you spend enough time on there, your mental health is going to plummet. I swear to you. It's the real thing. Trust me. And the next thing is something I swear by is really just taking time to get outside and get into nature. I think it's so healing and even if you live in a city like I do right now, I live in New York City. I still take time every single day to get outside. I walk around, I breathe in the fresh air, I just chill and it's just a game changer for my mental health. Okay, so if you have a hard time even like for me, I'm a home buddy. I can still get outside and take a walk. So no excuses. And the next thing is make sure you're giving yourself at least one full day off a week. If you're like me and you can easily fall into the non-stop work, take a step back, reel it in. And even if you feel like you want to work that day, don't for me. That's Sundays. I most of the time, like I'm unplugging, I'm not online. I'm just living my life and I'm recharging and basically just getting ready for the week ahead of me. But recharging is just as important as working hard. And final thing here, top five ways to find me online. Well, you can find me at OnlyFans.com slash Alex Links of course or Alex Links.
